Books in my life

My favourite book


Good evening, my dear readers!
Today I'm going to tell you about books in my life.
Actually, I prefer books over magazines, because I find them more interesting, inspiring and sometimes challenging. When I read hilarious dialogues of the central characters, time passes by for me…


  Sometimes, I read book reviews in magazines and websites, but I don’t like to take any risk – from time to time I ask my friend about different books, and she can advise me something really exciting. Nowadays Dasha is studying at the philological faculty, which is famous for reading and studying lots of books, that’s why she knows many brilliant authors who have a better feeling for characters.

  This summer Dasha advised me one of the most challenging books I‘ve ever read. It was “Wuthering Heights” by Emily Bronte. The characters are engaging and believable, especially Heathcliff. The story line is brilliant and I found it hard to put down. This book was well written but worrying in parts.
“The story takes place in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. The story is set in the north of England, a long way from any big cities or towns. People travel on horses, and they don’t have telephones or electricity. Wuthering Heights is about two families – the Lintons and the Earnshaws. The Lintons are very rich and own a big house and lots of land and farms. They are very important people. The Earnshaws are not as rich as the Lintons. But they are not poor – they own a farm and they have some servants and farm workers…”

The story line is complex and full of twists. It begins with the appearance of a small gypsy - Heathcliff, who became a member of the Earnshaws. At first nobody liked him, except Mr. Earnshaw. Hindley, the oldest son, took an instant dislike to this gypsy, but Cathy, the smallest daughter, became attracted to wild and free Heathcliff. When Mr. Earnshaw died, Hindley made Heathcliff a farm worker, and Heathcliff gave a promise to take a revenge. One day, Cathy and Heathcliff went to the Linton’s house to watch small children’s life. But, Cathy was caught and hurt by dogs, so she had to stay for some time at the Lintons’ house. She became an intelligent lady there. Cathy forgot about her previous wild life with her best friend Heathcliff, and some time later she married Edgar Linton. Three years later, Heathcliff came back and Cathy realized that she loved only him and nobody else…
 I think that this book is gripping from start to finish, and it has quite a thought-provoking plot. So if you enjoy this synopsis, don’t waste your time! Go to a bookshop, find the book, read the first page, and if you’ll turn over the page and carry on reading, buy it!!! You won’t be disappointed!!!

Language experience


My language learning experience

Today I would like to share my opinion with you about learning experience. 

Well, nowadays there are more than 250 countries and more than 7 milliard people in the world. The invention of the Internet allows us to find out about different countries, various languages and so on. Thanks to it we can meet interesting people from all parts of the world.  Now English is the most popular language and we can’t by without using it. By the way, if you want to travel or want to have an interesting and well-paid job, English will be a vital necessary. That’s why there are lots of courses to any taste.
First of all, what makes a great student?
Let me see…Firstly, I think a good student is a person who has a willingness to work hard. It’s someone, who’s willing to make mistakes. You have absolutely got to make a lot of mistakes if you want to learn anything. If it makes look a little bit foolish at times, you should say, “Okay, I didn’t get this right. I don’t quite know this yet, but let me correct it here”. In my opinion, if you’re not making mistakes, you’re not learning. Secondly, you should have a keen interest. If you are studying just because you need and you don’t really learn how to love what you’re studying, I don’t think you’re going to make much progress about what you’re doing, so you need the passion of what you’re studying. Thirdly, what makes a good student is perseverance and discipline. Nothing comes easy in life and if you really want to learn, you have to stick to it.
During you study, it will be perfect to have a good teacher. 

 Good teacher…Well, one thing that makes a good teacher is patience and dedication to his work. I think you have to love teaching to be a really good teacher. The great teacher should listen attentively to the students; explain anything that the students might not understand. What is more it’s a person who challenges their students at every turn and breaks down their accepted norms and teaches them to be open to new ones.
We all know that nobody learn the same way so there are a lot of ways to learn. I think the best way is probably try to combine the different methods and get a balanced approach.  Do a little reading, a little speaking, a little writing, and a little listening. Furthermore, I guess it would just be by talking to people in English and just keep going at it and keep going at it, and eventually you’ll get it I think. Try to take whatever you learn in class and practice it outside of class. If you have a lot of friends who speak English, then it become a very interactive experience and you also have incentive to learn more.
It’s very important to be well organized when you’re studying. Besides, it will be great if you are good at managing your time.
Unfortunately, I’m rather a disorganized person. Nowadays, I have a busy life, because of studying at the university, so, it’s quite difficult to remember all things, which I need to do. I find I’ve got too much to keep in my head, and now I can’t always rely on my good memory, that’s why a tidy notebook is the best decision for me. Well, I think I’m not good enough at managing my time. Now and then, it’s very difficult to me to do unpleasant work, especially, after a busy day at the university, and I can put it off until I really have to do it. But now, I quite understand that it’s very important to prioritize the most important things, like languages’ home works, and do them straight away and not to waste time!

National cuisine

Today, I would like to tell you about my unusual experience in the university. It was a project "National cuisine", which was made by my classmate Nastya and me. In my opinion, it's was very interesting! It was our first time, when we work together, and, by the way, with our same interest, Japan!  Nastya and I are studying the Japanese language together, so we had some information about this subject, but it was exciting to find out something new!!! So, set comfy and have a pleasant reading!

Today, we would like to tell you about one of the most interesting and unusual cuisine in the world. Japanese cuisine has developed over the centuries as a result of many political and social changes. The cuisine eventually changed with the advent of the Medieval age. Japanese cuisine is known for the food quality of ingredients and presentation.         
There are 3 parts of the food that are considered part of Japan's national cuisine today: rice, noodles and bread or pan.Since its cultivation in Japan about 2000 years ago, rice has been Japan's most important crop.  Noodles often take the place of rice in a meal. They are featured in many soup dishes. Bread is not native to Japan and is not considered traditional Japanese food, but since its introduction in the 19th century it has become common. The word pan is originally taken from Portuguese.

Well the Popular Japanese national dishes include gyoza, tempura, tonkatsu, ramen, soba, yakitori, sukiyaki, okonomiyaki, teppanyaki, shabu-shabu and, of course, sushi. The staples that make up Japanese cuisine remain the same nationwide: soy sauce, miso, tofu, beans and above all, the divine crop, rice. 
An izakaya is the Japanese equivalent of a pub-eatery. It’s good place to visit when you want a casual meal, a wide selection of food, a hearty atmosphere and, of course, plenty of beer and sake. When you enter an izakaya, you are given the choice of sitting around the counter, at a table or on a tatami floor. You usually order a bit at a time, choosing from a selection of typical Japanese foods, such as yakitori, sashimi and grilled fish, as well as Japanese interpretations of Western foods like French fries and beef stew.

Sushi is considered an accompaniment for beer and sake. All proper sushi restaurants serve their fish over rice, in which case it’s called sushi; without rice, it’s called sashimi. The most common variety is nigiri-zushi, which is served on a small bed of rice and maki-zushi, which is served in a seaweed roll. Sushi isn’t difficult to order. If you sit at the counter of a sushi restaurant you can simply point at what you want, as most of the selections are visible in a refrigerated glass case between you and the sushi chef.

Popular in the West,  Shabu-shabu and sakiyaki are favourite of most foreign visitors to Japan. Sukiyaki consists of thin slices of beef cooked in a broth of shoyu, sugar and sake, and accompanied by a variety of vegetables and tofu. After cooking, all the ingredients are dipped in raw egg before being eaten. When made with high-quality beef, like Kobe beef, it’s a sublime experience. Sukiyaki restaurants usually have traditional Japanese décor and sometimes a picture of a cow to help you identify them. Shabu-shabu consists of thin slices of beef and vegetables cooked by swirling the ingredients in a light broth, then dipping them in a variety of special sesame-seed and citrus-based sauces.

Tempura consists of portions of fish, prawns and vegetables cooked in fluffy, nongreasy batter. When you sit down at a tempura restaurant, you will be given a small bowl of a light brown sauce and a plate of grated daikon to mix into the sauce. Dip each piece of tempura into this sauce before eating it. Tempura is best when it’s hot, so don’t wait too long.

And now about fugu. It’s a poisoning fish. You should be very careful when eating it. The deadly fugu is eaten more for the thrill than the taste. Although the danger of fugu poisoning is negligible, some Japanese joke that you should always let your dining companion try the first piece. If they are still talking after five minutes, you can consider it safe and have some yourself. Fugu is a seasonal delicacy best eaten in winter. Fugu restaurants usually serve only fugu, and can be identified by a picture of a fugu on the sign out the front of the restaurant.

Although most restaurants don’t serve desserts, there is no lack of sweets in Japan. Most sweets are sold in speciality stores for you to eat at home. Many of the more delicate-looking ones are made to balance the strong, bitter taste of the special powdered green tea served during tea ceremony. Some Westerns find Japanese sweets  a little challenging, due to the liberal use of a sweet, red azuki-bean paste called anko.

     Drinking plays a big role in Japanese society, and there are few social occasions where beer or sake isn’t served. Alcohol also plays a ceremonial role in various Shinto festivals and rites, including the marriage ceremony. As a visitor to Japan, you’ll probably find yourself in lots of situations where you are invited to drink, and tipping back a few beers or glasses of sake is a great way to know the locals. However, if you don’t drink alcohol, it’s not a problem. Simply order oolong tea instead of beer or sake.

In Japanese tradition some dishes are strongly tied to a festival or event. These dishes include:
- Botamochi, a sticky rice dumpling with sweet azuki paste served in spring, while the term Hagi/Ohagi is used in autumn.

 - Sekihan, literally "red rice", is served for any celebratory occasion. It is usually sticky rice cooked with azuki, or red bean, which gives the rice its distinctive red color.

To sum it up, let me tell you a few words about the benefits of Japanese cuisine. Japan is an island nation, its people eat a lot of seafood. Their food is always fresh, and rich in nutrition. These dishes don’t contain a lot of saturated fat, but are high in vital nutrients, and they are rather satisfying. That’s why the Japanese can simply control their weight and, it can also decrease their chances of having a heart attack in later time. They improve their eating habits, that’s why, nowadays they are better equipped to deal with the stressful lifestyle.
